Here are answers to questions couples often ask before joining a Marriage Encounter Weekend.
Marriage Encounter (ME) is designed to give married couples the opportunity to examine their lives together, a time to share their feelings, hopes, disappointments, joys and frustrations; and to do openly and honestly with the one person whom they have chosen to live with for the rest of their lives.
The emphasis of ME is on communication between husband and wife, who will spend the weekend together away from the distractions and the tensions of everyday life to concentrate on each other.
This is not a retreat, nor marriage clinic etc. The Weekend will allow you and your spouse to be alone and rediscover each other, and together will focus on your marital relationship.
The ME is for any couple who want to enrich their marriage which will expand and deepen the joys a couple share together regardless how many years they have been married. The ME is also for priests and religious who want to revitalise their relationship with people of God and develop a deeper appreciation of their own vocation.
A series of talks are given by a team of trained couples and a priest. Each talk gives husband and wife the opportunity to look at themselves as individuals and also their relationship with each other and finally with God and with others.
ME starts with the love you have for your spouse and helps to build, expand and deepen that relationship. The Weekend will show how this can be done – and the rest will be your own choice. The ME will be able to make a good marriage even better.
The fundamental difference between marriages that are good, average or poor is the level of communication between the husband and wife. In all marital relationships, there are times where we have taken each other for granted.
The ME Weekend will enable a FRESH look at your marriage and our priorities. We will learn the communication technique that allows and encourages us to explore the important areas in our life together in the spirit of love and understanding. The Weekend will give insight of tools and the confidence to enrich their marriage and strengthen their love.
Absolutely! ME emphasises on the communication between husband and wife. You will concentrate on your spouse that you will hardly realise other couples exist. After each presentation, husband and wife will have their private time to communicate in their own private room. There will be no group discussions.
No! The Weekend is presented by three catholic couples and a Catholic priest. It is Catholic in its theology of marriage as a Sacrament of the Church, but couples of all faiths can benefit from it and are encouraged to attend.
The weekend will begin on Friday at 7.00pm and ends on Sunday at 6.30pm. Mass will be celebrated at the conclusion of the Weekend.
