In 2015, by God’s providence, we joined the Marriage Encounter Weekend and formed the ME158 couples’ group. From that moment, our marriage journey was no longer just two persons walking alone, but a shared journey with companions who support, encourage, and grow together.

Ten years later, we gathered at Pangkor Island to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Though some couples could not be present, our hearts remained united. Along the way, we stopped at Sitiawan for the famous “Kong Piah” and red yeast chicken noodle; we visited fishing ports and anchovy factories, witnessing fishermen return with their abundant catch. One highlight was feeding wild hornbills with bananas. Watching them come one by one, without fighting but in order, filled us with awe and gratitude.

One of the most heartwarming moments was when we worked hand in hand to prepare a seafood feast: cleaning, cutting, cooking steamboat soup, grilling three kinds of fish, prawns, cuttlefish and squid, plus fried rice and vegetables. Within an hour, our teamwork transformed the fresh produce into a delicious dinner, reminding us of the beauty of unity and cooperation.

Across the two joyful nights, laughter overflowed. With karaoke equipment thoughtfully brought by AJ, we sang our hearts out. Yet the most touching moment was when we sang a cappella our ME158 theme song, “When You Are Old.” The harmony of our voices moved us deeply, and we truly felt the presence of the Holy Spirit among us.

Looking back, we recall the many journeys we have shared over the past decade — Kukup, Chiling Park, Bentong waterfalls, Kulai, and Kuala Selangor homestay. Each trip was not just about fun, but also a testimony of lasting commitment and companionship in our marriages.

Marriage is not a journey for two alone, but a vocation to walk with God, supported by the gift of community. We give thanks to the Lord for the blessing of Marriage Encounter, which has strengthened and enriched us through these ten years.

“So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.” (Mark 10:9)
